Abarkouh

 

291 km from Shiraz towards Yazd lies the city of Abarkouh. Juxtaposed against the desert, a historical background and appealing architecture make this beautiful city well worth visiting. This tour is suggested to all tourists who want to travel the direction from Shiraz to Yazd or vice versa.

Itinerary:

Early in the morning depart for Abarkouh (291 km). Visit the traditional ice-cisterns (20 mins), 4000 year-old cypress (30 mins), Nezamieh School, one of the oldest Iranian post-Islamic universities which date back to 1000 years ago (20 min), Jame’ mosque (20 mins), Agha Zadeh house (30 mins), anthropological museum (20 mins) and Aliyeh Dome, the tomb of a Seljuk king located on the peak of a mountain (1 hr). Stay overnight in Abarkouh to savour the blinking sky of desert or continue the route to Yazd or Shiraz.
