Magnificent Horse Riding in Iran
Equestrianism is a sport with many branches and countless enthusiasts. For many people, riding — and watching the competitions built around it — is a lifelong passion, spanning disciplines such as horse racing, agile riding, show jumping, polo, and hunting on horseback.
Moments on horseback feel like scenes from a film, the rider galloping off into the sunset. Once in the saddle, you'll understand why. Here are just a few reasons riders keep coming back:
Fun, above all else. And beyond that: stress relief, deeper trust, and better fitness.
Iran is a vast country with countless destinations to explore, many shaped by a climate well suited to travel — one of the reasons it continues to draw visitors from around the world.
When it comes to horses, much of the attention centers on the plains of the Turkmen Sahara. The horse has long been woven into the heritage of Golestan's Turkmen people. The province is home to the country's oldest equestrian complex, in Gonbad-e Kavous, along with further riding tracks in Bandar-e Turkmen and Aqqala.
Haft Barm, about 55 km from Shiraz, offers riding in every season. Its lakes are ringed by lush vegetation, making it one of the city's most popular natural escapes.
Finally, there's Ramsar — often called the bride of Iranian cities — set along the Caspian Sea in Mazandaran province. Among its highlights is horseback riding through Dalkhani Forest, one of the most beautiful and untouched forests in the north, best explored in spring and summer.
